Why It Matters

The Amazon Rainforest is one of the most diverse places on our planet covering more than half of Brazil there are "over 500 mammals, 175 lizards and over 300 other reptiles species, and one third of the world's birds live in Amazonia."

With deforestation animals living in the canopy of the forest such as sloths, jaguars, and various birds lose their homes not to mention the animals affected in the understory.

From a biological perspective with enormous amounts of the rainforest being cut down the world will lose one of the most diverse, interesting areas on the planet.  Animals will lose their habitat and more carbon emissions will increase the rate of global warming.
Though for many threats to the Amazon may seem like a distant thought there is undeniably a cause and effect relationship that can affect everyone on a global scale.

  1. Heya Justina,

I feel as though all the previous pages really lead up to this one. The cattle ranching, logging, and developing cities all effect the Amazon, got it. But this will be the page that makes or breaks your website. What you've got here is a good start, but I'd love to see dramatic photos, well respected scientific data, and more zeal! All of us can't see the negative effects directly playing out in our lives, so you have to work extra hard to make us--the readers--care.

    Great organization and topic,
